I admit it. When I think of Morristown, I think back to the fond memories I have as a 21-year-old bouncing around from club to club. Back then (2006-2007) the hot spots were Dark Horse, Funky Monkey and Palm Bar. Motown was (and still is) an ideal place to hit up a handful of bars in one night without the hassle of having to drive from place to place.  

Although I’m a bit past 21 and typically prefer a more mature crowd when I go out, I've heard Morristown had recently gone through quite a bit of transformation, with major construction projects completed  (such as the luxurious 40 Park) and the opening of more than a dozen new businesses. I decided now might be a good time to check out what this “new” Morristown had to offer so my friend Amila and I embarked on a mini happy hour bar crawl this past Friday night. 

Here’s where we went:

George & Martha’s: This is and will most likely always be my Motown favorite. I’m a bit biased since I am friends with the manager of G&M, but I will say this, G&M offers delicious happy hour food, a wide assortment of cocktails and specialty drinks for less than $5, a great environment and hot music. This was the first stop on our happy hour bar crawl. Looking for a strong drink? Order the appletini.

Sona 13: For those of you that can remember the old Funky Monkey that took up this location 5-years ago, this club is less dance and more of a place to socialize and wind down from a busy work day.  Happy hour is every day from 4:00-7:00 pm and again most specialty cocktails/beers are less than $5. This is a great spot to meet new people since the music is never too loud and the bar is quite spacious. Each time I come here, I always seem to make a handful of new friends and on this particular night a group of cops.

The Office: Although this restaurant /bar establishment has been a staple in Morristown for as long as I can remember, it never seems to get old. Great eats, friendly service, trivia nights and a fun atmosphere is what you’ll find at The Office. This was the last stop on our happy hour bar crawl and as usual, it did not disappoint.

There are a handful of new places I did not fit into my bar crawl such as the all-new Iron Bar, Roots, Tashmoo, and Famished Frog to name a few, so stay tuned for part 2 of this story.

I may not be 21 anymore, but Morristown is still a good time with old (and new) friends.
